I was born in Wembley on the 13th July 1958. I lived in Wembley till 1967. Memories of that time include seeing the Post Office
Tower being built on the way to school every day, and England winning the 1966 World Cup. We could hear the crowds as the stadium was 400m from our house. In 1967 we move to Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire. I went to school at St. Johns Rickmansworth and St. Michael's Garston. I Bought my first single in 1968, Blackberry Way by the Move and my first album Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart in 1971.
I got my first moped a Puch Maxi in 1974 and then a Fantic Sports moped in 1975. In the hot summer of 1976 I got my first motorcycle, a Honda CB175. Many bikes later I now own a Kawasaki W650.
I pass my driving test in my mums Mini Traveller. I still own a mini. A 1994 Mini Sprite. I'll get the sills fixed and put it back on the road after my Fiesta expires. In 1976 I started an HND in Applied Physics at Middlesex Polytechnic. During this time I ran probably the worst disco in the area, though some of clients seem to enjoy it. I bought the first Toto album in 1978 which stated my interest in American music. See LINKS page for links to the music I listen to now. After passing my HND I started work at Marconi. I worked as a software Engineer at an interesting time in the development computors and microprocessors. While at Marconi I started a football team. We didn't do that well. I started to run to get fit for football but was persuded to race for Hillingdon A.C. by colleagues at Marconi; Basil Neilson and Steve Haylock. I gave up football and started my interest in running.
The highlight of my running was when I ran the 1989 Welwyn 10 mile road race in 55 minutes 25 seconds. Glandular Fever stop me improving on this. I've been a member of many running clubs over the years and have coached, organised events and produced my Herts running website www.runherts.com. I the early 90's I got bored with being a Software Engineer and took a large drop in salary to manage the Athletics Track at St. Albans. (I got married.) During my 2 years there I organised may events; road and X/C races, swim run duathlons, Triathlon Training camps and other training sessions. I got made redundant when it was decided the Golf Pro could run the golf course and the track. After a brief spell stacking shelfs at night (Before 24 hour opening) I got a job working for Hertsmere Bourgh Council Drainage department. I spent 7 years working on drainage surveys, flow monitoring and polution tracing all over the South East. I got divorced during this period. I was made redundant when Thames Water stoped contracting the council. Over the last 5 years my running has taken me to Guernsey where I am a member of Guernsey Island AAC and have many friends.
Xmas 2005 I went to Slovenia for a winter activity holiday. This led to returning to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia in March 2006 to learn to ski. I got hooked and started skiing at Welwyn every week. Over the 2006/7 ski season I went on 4 ski trips, finishing off in Kranjska Gora where I can now ski all the runs including the black run used for World Cup events. Over the last few years I have become more involved with volunteer work for Cancer Research UK Race for Life. I started working on races in Herts, Beds and Bucks. I now work on the London Races and have produced a website www.runwalklondon.com to report on these. At present I live in Ware, work as a line leader for a large manufacturing company, am a key volunteer for Cancer Research UK Race for Life, run, cycle, ski and am single.
